What a treat it was to have clients Pauli and Chris visit to pick up their beautiful custom wedding album by Finao!   Their 50-spread album features archival pages and a beautifully soft linen cover.  Designing this album was a breeze with Smart Albums!

Reconnecting with my clients after their wedding is so rewarding, I asked my intern, Arlena Nadeeya, to film their big album reveal!   There’s nothing better than photographing reaction, and Pauli and Chris were so excited to receive their wedding album, this video just makes me smile!

My job as a visual storyteller is to cover all aspects of your day.  I shoot photographs specifically for your wedding album, and I envision your story timeline while I document your friends, family and all of the events you have planned for your special day.

You might not frame a photograph of your wedding bouquet, and your grandfather’s watch might not make your Facebook page, but these wedding photographs are essential pieces of your story and are meant to be in your wedding album, the best way to showcase your beautiful photographs!

After your wedding, your wedding photographs will be beautifully preserved and archived in a custom flushmount album of your choice.  This timeless album is the first piece of your family history together, and is the best way to share your wedding photographs with the people you love the most.

Thank you SO much, Pauli and Chris!  And a huge thank you to my intern, Arlena Nadeeya, for filming this lovely couple receiving their wedding album!

One of my favorite things to teach to my photography students is to Compose and Wait.  This simple exercise is something that we often take for granted during a rushed wedding day, it’s our own most under utilized tool.  Really, how often do we have time to wait?  Or, take the time necessary to build a photograph?

During my recent trip to London and Paris, where I taught my Moment-Driven Workshop, I gave myself the assignment to compose and wait and see what happened.  It was fun, I made mistakes and learned from them, and I grew to appreciate this exercise even more, and here is my street photography from my trip.

I also want to thank everyone who made it possible to pull off a London photography workshop.  Thank you!!

London photojournalism workshop by Candice Cusic

If you’re shooting the same old things each week in the same old way… I can help.

This two-day shooting workshop will refocus your eye, show you new ways to see and help you step outside your comfort zone.

Ever hesitate to get the camera close?  We will work on this together.  Let’s shoot people who aren’t paying you.  BOOM– now you have freedom to shoot with your own vision, not what clients expect of you.  Let’s shake up your usual routine and try something new!

Internationally award-winning photojournalist Candice C. Cusic will show you her thought process before hitting the shutter, how to capture moments during portrait sessions, how to feel comfortable documenting strangers and how to anticipate and capture moments you will love.

I just returned from London, where I spoke at the lively and inspiring Nine Dots Gathering, and held my Moment-Driven Workshop: London!  I’m a bit jet lagged at the moment but I wanted to share some photos I made of my students during our workshop.  One of our group exercises was to approach strangers, not pose them, and photograph them while having a conversation.  Some students were bold, some terrified at the thought of talking to strangers and stepping outside their comfort zones.

I could not be prouder of my students, they absolutely accomplished the assignment with flying colors.  Some students even erased a long fear, which is truly empowering. What’s better than watching anyone overcome a fear?  Not much!

Here are some shots of my students photographing strangers, as well as some super quick Moment-Driven portraits I made of each student.

To my students, Maarten Devoldere, Lee Allison, Lina Orsino-Allen, Eve Dunlop, David Stubbs, Karl Tull, Matt Badenoch, Catherine Pound, Matthew Warrington, Rhea Skogen, Rafe Abrook, Jonny Harper: THANK YOU.  You truly inspire me, thank you so much for taking this journey together.

Minda and Garrett had a beautiful Grove Redfield Estate Wedding, with an outdoor ceremony and reception.  The historic Grove Redfield Estate, built in 1929 and surrounded by lush prairie,  features charming architecture and luscious gardens, a beautiful location and a favorite among Chicago wedding photographers.  I loved the leaded glass windows and the vintage bedrooms where Minda and Garrett got ready on their wedding day.  They chose to not do a first look, which only intensified their wonderfully emotional wedding ceremony.  The evening ended with an exit of bubbles and a drive inside a 1962 Silver Cloud Rolls Royce.

Thank you so much, Minda and Garrett!  I wish you the very best!  Please enjoy your Grove Redfield Estate wedding photography.

The Nine Dots Gathering is in just a few short weeks.  I’m so excited for my first trip to London!  I’m very honored to be a speaker at this wedding photographer “conference,” where photographers from around the world gather for two days inside Bounce to be inspired, play ping pong, and grow their own family of photographers.  Any gathering that features ping pong sounds awesome, so I can’t wait!  Tickets are still available for the Nine Dots Gathering, come join us!

I’m also holding my first Moment-Driven Workshop in London and it is SOLD OUT.   I’ll keep you all posted when I announce the 2017 Moment-Driven Workshop dates!

I want to thank Nine Dots for asking me to speak and for this fun interview posted below.  We really do have the greatest job in the world!  Can’t wait to see you all!
