Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Photography in Chicago: Capturing Their Sweet, Gentle Spirit

Photograph of a king charles spaniel with bubbles by candice c. cusic

Few dogs have a way of looking into your eyes quite like a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

Their expression is soft.

Kind.

Curious.

Almost as if they’re listening to every word you say.

It’s one of the many reasons people fall in love with the breed.

As a Chicago pet photographer, I believe the most beautiful portraits aren’t just about showing how elegant a Cavalier is.

They’re about capturing the gentle personality that makes your dog irreplaceable.

Every Cavalier Has a Heart Full of Love

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are known for their affectionate nature.

They love being close to their families.

Whether they’re curled beside you on the couch, following you from room to room, or resting their head on your lap, they have a remarkable way of making every moment feel a little calmer.

Those quiet moments often become the portraits families treasure most.

Their Eyes Tell Their Story

If there’s one feature that defines a Cavalier, it’s their eyes.

Warm.

Expressive.

Full of emotion.

Long before people notice their silky ears or beautiful coat, they’re drawn to that gentle gaze.

Capturing that expression is my favorite part of photographing the breed.

Because when you get the eyes right…

Everything else falls into place.

Their Beautiful Coat Deserves Beautiful Light

Whether your Cavalier is Blenheim, Tricolor, Ruby, or Black and Tan, their silky coat deserves thoughtful lighting.

Professional studio lighting reveals the richness of their color, the softness of their fur, and the tiny details that phone cameras often miss.

The result is a portrait that feels elegant without ever feeling posed.

We Let Your Dog Set the Pace

Every studio portrait session lasts up to two hours.

Some Cavaliers settle in immediately.

Others spend a little time exploring before they’re ready.

There’s never any pressure to perform.

The best portraits happen when dogs feel comfortable enough to simply be themselves.

Every Session Includes a Professional Animal Trainer

Every studio portrait session includes a professional animal trainer.

While I focus on lighting, composition, and waiting for authentic expressions, our trainer focuses entirely on your Cavalier’s comfort, confidence, and safety.

That partnership helps create a calm experience where your dog’s personality naturally shines.

The Little Moments Matter Most

Sometimes it’s the slight head tilt.

A gentle blink.

The way they lean toward the people they love.

Those tiny moments may last only a second, but they’re often the moments families remember forever.

That’s what I hope every portrait captures.

Not perfection.

Recognition.

The feeling of looking at the artwork and saying,

“That’s exactly who they were.”

Ready to Celebrate Your Cavalier?

Whether your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a playful puppy, a devoted companion, or enjoying their senior years, I’d love to help create artwork that celebrates the bond you share.

Dama arrived at the studio in a wheelchair.

That was the first thing I noticed.

It was also the least interesting thing about her.

What I remember is her determination.

Her curiosity.

I created The See Hear Love Project to help animals like Blanca.
⠀
Painfully shy. Dumped on a road before the rain came. Nervous around strangers. Ears down. Tail tucked.
⠀
For those new to the project, these are not carefree, well-adjusted animals. Many have experienced neglect, abandonment, fear, or loss.
⠀
Sometimes we only get one photograph when they truly relax.
⠀
Thankfully, we only need one.

Special thanks to @sayvanimalorg for bringing Blanca to The See Hear Love Project.

One of the best things about photographing Ramona is watching everyone react to a pig in the building.

People stopped.

They smiled.

They took selfies.

One gentleman asked if I could wait so he could FaceTime his girlfriend because she loves pigs.

The hardest thing about photographing a pig is that pigs don't stop moving.

Ever.

This portrait worked because Ramona kept walking in circles, allowing us to see her body and face at the same time.

Not shown: Ramona chewed up the paper backdrop on set. Her pig squeal echoed through the studio—loud, proud, and impossible to ignore, just like Ramona herself.

"Thank you

for saving my life."

The See Hear Love Project combines professional photography and animal communication. Each portrait is paired with one of the most powerful messages the animal shared during their communication session.

Some dogs don’t just fit into a family — they become part of its heartbeat.

Eddie was pure joy to photograph with his two favorite people. The connection between them was effortless, loving, and completely real.

These are the moments worth remembering.
    Meet Zeno.

After being surrendered by his owner, Zeno has spent more than a year waiting at Red Door Animal Shelter for someone to choose him.

And somehow, after all this time, he’s still soft. Still trusting. Still hopeful.

Cats like Zeno don’t need perfection. They just need someone willing to see them.
