There is something really beautiful about watching two people in love. It’s a dream for a wedding photographer, all I have to do is document their smiles, little looks, and belly laughs. Even with a large production like a wedding, with caterers and wait staff running around, guests tearing up the dance floor, and a rocking DJ supplying endless songs during the evening, Kate and Matt looked like they could have been dancing in their living room, they are just that comfortable together and that much in love.
Our day began at the beautiful Raffaello Hotel, where both Kate and Matt got ready before their first look in the expansive and beautiful Drumbar Chicago. While Kate’s sister and mother helped her into her dress, Matt had the bar to himself while he got dressed. Their first look was lovely, quiet and just as beautiful as the two of them are together.
The rest of our day was held at the incredible MCA Chicago, a truly fantastic location to throw a wedding. The lush gardens behind this downtown Chicago venue was an intimate and beautiful location for Kate and Matt’s wedding ceremony, followed by cocktails on the terrace before dinner inside the museum. One of the museum exhibits featured a large hot-air balloon that we were allowed inside for a few minutes with our happy couple, provided we didn’t use any flash photography (museums!) and wore protective booties on our feet. 🙂
One of my favorite moments was during the wedding ceremony, with sunset hitting downtown Chicago and falling around Kate and Matt while they exchanged vows. We were in the middle of this beautiful city, but it wasn’t noisy or dominating. It was green and featured bunnies on the lawn after the sun went down. Yes, bunnies in the middle of Chicago!
Thank you so much, Kate and Matt, for including us on your wedding day. I wish you nothing but continued happiness! Enjoy your photographs!
