Some dogs seem to wake up every morning convinced it’s going to be a great day.
West Highland White Terriers are often among them.

As a Chicago pet photographer, I’ve found that Westies bring an incredible amount of energy, curiosity, and heart to every portrait session.

One thing I’ve noticed about West Highland White Terriers is how engaged they are with everything around them.

That natural curiosity creates wonderful opportunities for genuine expressions.
Some of my favorite portraits happen when a Westie suddenly notices something interesting, lifts their ears, and gives me that unmistakable alert expression that’s so characteristic of the breed.
Those aren’t posed moments.
They’re real moments.
And those are always my favorites.

The first thing many people notice about a Westie is their brilliant white coat.

But after photographing them, I believe their greatest feature is their expression.
