Cocker Spaniel Photography in Chicago: Portraits Full of Heart

Cocker Spaniel Photography in Chicago: Portraits Full of Heart

There’s something unforgettable about a Cocker Spaniel’s eyes.

Warm.

Gentle.

Full of curiosity.

Before you notice their silky ears or beautifully curled coat, you often notice the way they look at the people they love. It’s a gaze filled with trust, affection, and a quiet understanding that has made Cocker Spaniels one of the world’s most beloved family dogs.

As a Chicago pet photographer, I love photographing Cocker Spaniels because every session reveals a little more of that beautiful personality.

A Dog That Lives to Love

Cocker Spaniels are happiest when they’re with their people.

Whether they’re greeting you at the door, curling up beside you after a long day, or enthusiastically joining every family adventure, they have a wonderful way of making ordinary moments feel special.

Their joyful nature and affectionate personalities often shine through without any prompting.

That’s exactly what I hope to preserve during every portrait session.

What I’ve Learned Photographing Cocker Spaniels

One thing I’ve noticed about Cocker Spaniels is how expressive they are.

Every emotion seems to appear across their face.

Excitement.

Curiosity.

Gentle affection.

Sometimes all within a few seconds.

I’ve also found that they often check in with their families throughout the session. Even while exploring the studio, they’ll glance back as if to make sure everyone is still together.

Those little moments tell a story.

Rather than asking dogs to perform, I prefer to patiently wait for those genuine expressions that reveal exactly who they are.

Every Session Includes a Professional Animal Trainer

One of the things that makes my portrait sessions different is that every session includes a professional animal trainer.

While I focus completely on creating authentic photographs, our trainer helps keep your dog relaxed, engaged, and comfortable throughout the experience.

That teamwork allows us to capture natural expressions, beautiful eye contact, and genuine moments without stress or pressure.

Whether your Cocker Spaniel is energetic, shy, or somewhere in between, having a trainer present helps create an experience that’s enjoyable for both dogs and their families.

More Than Beautiful Curls

Cocker Spaniels are known for their gorgeous coats.

Those soft curls and feathered ears photograph beautifully.

But they aren’t what families fall in love with when they see their finished portraits.

It’s the expression.

The tilted head.

The joyful smile.

The way their eyes seem to tell a story all on their own.

Those are the moments that become treasured artwork.

Every Cocker Spaniel Is Different

No two Cocker Spaniels I’ve photographed have been exactly alike.

Some arrive ready to greet everyone they meet.

Others take their time, quietly observing before showing their playful side.

Some are endlessly curious.

Others simply want to stay close to the people they love.

Those differences are what make every session unique.

I don’t try to create the same portrait for every dog.

I create portraits that reflect the individual personality standing in front of my camera.

Why Professional Portraits Matter

The puppy years seem endless.

Until they aren’t.

The playful zoomies eventually become slower walks.

The face you kiss every morning slowly begins to gray.

Professional portraits allow you to hold onto this chapter long after it’s passed.

Years from now, you won’t simply remember how your Cocker Spaniel looked.

You’ll remember how they made you feel.

A Portrait Experience Designed Around Your Dog

Every portrait session in my Chicago studio is designed to move at your dog’s pace.

There is no rush.

No pressure.

No expectation that they’ll pose perfectly.

Instead, we allow time for trust to develop naturally, giving your Cocker Spaniel the freedom to relax and simply be themselves.

That’s when the most meaningful photographs happen.

Celebrate Your Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels have spent generations becoming part of our families.

They make us laugh.

They comfort us when we need them most.

They greet every day with optimism and unconditional love.

A professional portrait preserves all of those qualities, creating artwork that celebrates not only how your dog looked, but the remarkable heart that made them unforgettable.

The See Hear Love Project™ wouldn't exist without the incredible rescue organizations that trusted me with the stories of the animals in their care.

Thank you for believing in an idea that was a little different, for opening your doors, and for introducing me to some truly unforgettable animals.

I'm so excited to share the latest sizzle reel for The See Hear Love Project™.

Every featured animal received a documentary film, fine-art portraiture, and an animal communication session designed to help people connect with the individual behind the adoption profile.

My hope has always been simple: to tell stories that help more animals find forever homes.

Thank you to every rescue, foster, volunteer, adopter, and supporter who has been part of this journey. This is only the beginning.

Dama arrived at the studio in a wheelchair.

That was the first thing I noticed.

It was also the least interesting thing about her.

I created The See Hear Love Project to help animals like Blanca.
⠀
Painfully shy. Dumped on a road before the rain came. Nervous around strangers. Ears down. Tail tucked.
⠀
For those new to the project, these are not carefree, well-adjusted animals. Many have experienced neglect, abandonment, fear, or loss.
⠀
Sometimes we only get one photograph when they truly relax.
⠀
Thankfully, we only need one.

Special thanks to @sayvanimalorg for bringing Blanca to The See Hear Love Project.

One of the best things about photographing Ramona is watching everyone react to a pig in the building.

People stopped.

They smiled.

They took selfies.

One gentleman asked if I could wait so he could FaceTime his girlfriend because she loves pigs.

The hardest thing about photographing a pig is that pigs don't stop moving.

Ever.

This portrait worked because Ramona kept walking in circles, allowing us to see her body and face at the same time.

Not shown: Ramona chewed up the paper backdrop on set. Her pig squeal echoed through the studio—loud, proud, and impossible to ignore, just like Ramona herself.

"Thank you

for saving my life."

— Ramona

The See Hear Love Project combines professional photography and animal communication. Each portrait is paired with one of the most powerful messages the animal shared during their communication session.

Seen. Heard. Loved.

Some dogs don’t just fit into a family — they become part of its heartbeat.
⠀
Eddie was pure joy to photograph with his two favorite people. The connection between them was effortless, loving, and completely real.

These are the moments worth remembering.
    Meet Zeno.

After being surrendered by his owner, Zeno has spent more than a year waiting at Red Door Animal Shelter for someone to choose him.

And somehow, after all this time, he’s still soft. Still trusting. Still hopeful.

Cats like Zeno don’t need perfection. They just need someone willing to see them.
