Yorkshire Terrier Photography in Chicago: Tiny Dog, Unforgettable Personality

Smiling yorkie on black background by chicago pet photographer candice cusic Yorkshire Terrier portrait photographed in a professional Chicago pet photography studio by Candice Cusic.

Spend even a few minutes with a Yorkshire Terrier, and you’ll quickly discover one thing.

They have absolutely no idea they’re small.

Yorkies greet the world with remarkable confidence. They’re curious, fearless, endlessly entertaining, and deeply devoted to the people they love. While they may fit comfortably in your lap, their personalities are anything but tiny.

As a Chicago pet photographer, I’ve learned that Yorkshire Terriers have an incredible ability to fill every portrait session with energy, curiosity, and heart.

A Big Personality in a Small Package

Yorkshire Terriers have been winning hearts for generations.

Originally bred as hardworking little dogs, today’s Yorkies are known for being affectionate companions who love being involved in everything their families do.

Whether they’re proudly leading the neighborhood walk or curling up beside you after a busy day, they approach life with enthusiasm that never seems to fade.

That joyful confidence is one of my favorite things to photograph.

What I’ve Learned Photographing Yorkshire Terriers

One thing I’ve noticed about Yorkies is how connected they are to their people.

Even when they’re exploring a new environment, they regularly glance back toward the person they trust most.

They want to know where you are.

They want you to be part of the adventure.

Those little check-ins often become my favorite photographs.

A bright expression.

A curious head tilt.

A look that says, “Are you coming?”

Those aren’t posed moments.

They’re honest ones.

And honesty is what transforms a photograph into something meaningful.

Every Session Includes a Professional Animal Trainer

Every portrait session includes a professional animal trainer, allowing me to focus entirely on creating authentic images while your dog enjoys a relaxed, positive experience.

Our trainer helps keep your Yorkie engaged, comfortable, and confident throughout the session, making it easier to capture genuine expressions instead of forced poses.

The result is artwork that reflects your dog’s real personality—not just perfect behavior.

More Than a Beautiful Coat

Yorkshire Terriers are known for their luxurious, silky coats.

They’re beautiful.

Elegant.

Instantly recognizable.

But the photographs families treasure most aren’t about perfect hair.

They’re about personality.

The spark in their eyes.

The playful confidence.

The joyful curiosity that makes every Yorkie completely unique.

Those are the details that become priceless over time.

Every Yorkie Has Their Own Story

Although Yorkies share many wonderful qualities, every one I’ve photographed has been different.

Some are outgoing from the moment they arrive.

Others prefer to quietly observe before deciding the studio is their new favorite place.

Some are little comedians.

Others are gentle snugglers who simply want to stay close to their families.

That’s why I never photograph stereotypes.

I photograph individuals.

Because your Yorkshire Terrier has a story no one else can tell.

Why Professional Portraits Matter

The years pass faster than any of us expect.

The puppy becomes an adult.

The silky coat changes.

The little face you see every morning slowly begins to gray.

Professional portraits preserve this season of life before it quietly becomes a memory.

Years from now, these photographs won’t simply remind you how your Yorkie looked.

They’ll remind you of the fearless little companion who filled your home with joy.

A Portrait Experience Designed Around Your Dog

Every portrait session in my Chicago studio is built around patience, trust, and genuine connection.

There’s no rush.

No pressure.

Just time for your dog to explore, relax, and let their personality shine.

That’s when the photographs become more than portraits.

They become lasting memories.

Celebrate Your Yorkshire Terrier

Yorkshire Terriers may be among the smallest dogs you’ll ever meet, but they leave some of the biggest footprints on our hearts.

A professional portrait celebrates not only their beautiful appearance but also the confidence, affection, and joyful spirit that make them such unforgettable companions.

    This is pretty exciting.

**Bored Panda just featured The See Hear Love Project.**

The See Hear Love Project is the world’s only documentary storytelling project told from the animal’s perspective.

Through animal communication, shelter and rescue animals share their own stories, and we create fine-art portraits and documentary films to help them be seen, heard, and adopted.

I’m incredibly grateful to the rescues who trusted us with their animals and their stories:

⠀
George wandered into Owen’s backyard one winter.
⠀
And stayed. ❤️
⠀
During George’s animal communication session, I asked him about his life with Owen.
⠀
Then George told me something wonderfully specific:
⠀
“Cookies in bed make Owen happy.”
⠀
Owen’s reaction says everything. 😂
⠀
These are some of my favorite moments in animal communication. Sometimes what an animal shares is profound. Sometimes it’s heartbreaking.
⠀
And sometimes a cat who wandered into your backyard knows exactly what makes you happy.

The See Hear Love Project™ wouldn't exist without the incredible rescue organizations that trusted me with the stories of the animals in their care.

Thank you for believing in an idea that was a little different, for opening your doors, and for introducing me to some truly unforgettable animals.

I'm so excited to share the latest sizzle reel for The See Hear Love Project™.

Every featured animal received a documentary film, fine-art portraiture, and an animal communication session designed to help people connect with the individual behind the adoption profile.

My hope has always been simple: to tell stories that help more animals find forever homes.

Thank you to every rescue, foster, volunteer, adopter, and supporter who has been part of this journey. This is only the beginning.

Dama arrived at the studio in a wheelchair.
⠀
That was the first thing I noticed.
⠀
It was also the least interesting thing about her.
⠀
What I remember is her determination.
⠀
Her curiosity.

Her joy.

I created The See Hear Love Project to help animals like Blanca.
⠀
Painfully shy. Dumped on a road before the rain came. Nervous around strangers. Ears down. Tail tucked.
⠀
For those new to the project, these are not carefree, well-adjusted animals. Many have experienced neglect, abandonment, fear, or loss.
⠀
Sometimes we only get one photograph when they truly relax.
⠀
Thankfully, we only need one.
⠀
Please visit my page to see Blanca's full story.
⠀
Special thanks to @sayvanimalorg for bringing Blanca to The See Hear Love Project.

One of the best things about photographing Ramona is watching everyone react to a pig in the building.

People stopped.

They smiled.

They took selfies.

One gentleman asked if I could wait so he could FaceTime his girlfriend because she loves pigs.

The hardest thing about photographing a pig is that pigs don't stop moving.

Ever.

This portrait worked because Ramona kept walking in circles, allowing us to see her body and face at the same time.

Not shown: Ramona chewed up the paper backdrop on set. Her pig squeal echoed through the studio—loud, proud, and impossible to ignore, just like Ramona herself.

"Thank you

for saving my life."

— Ramona

The See Hear Love Project combines professional photography and animal communication. Each portrait is paired with one of the most powerful messages the animal shared during their communication session.

Seen. Heard. Loved.

Some dogs don’t just fit into a family — they become part of its heartbeat.
⠀
Eddie was pure joy to photograph with his two favorite people. The connection between them was effortless, loving, and completely real.

These are the moments worth remembering.
