If you’re booking a pet portrait session, you’ve probably already thought:
“What am I supposed to wear for this?”
The good news: you don’t need anything fancy. You just want to look timeless, feel comfortable, and let your pet be the focus.
Here’s what I recommend for a pet portrait session at Candice C. Cusic Photography in West Town, Chicago.
1) Wear Something You Feel Like Yourself In
If you feel stiff or uncomfortable in your outfit, it shows.
Choose something you can move in, sit in, and cuddle your pet in without thinking about it. The goal is to look like you—just polished and elevated.
2) Keep It Simple (No Loud Logos or Busy Patterns)
Pet portraits are all about connection. Loud graphics and distracting patterns pull attention away from the moment.
The best choices are usually:
- solid colors
- soft textures
- clean, classic pieces
3) Neutral and Dark Tones Photograph Beautifully
In studio lighting, timeless tones almost always look best.
Black, gray, cream, denim, navy, and soft earth tones photograph beautifully and feel elevated.
If you want the portraits to look cohesive as artwork on your walls, simplicity is your best friend.
4) Think “Artwork,” Not “Outfit”
This isn’t a casual snapshot—it’s a portrait designed to become fine-art artwork for your home.
That means we want your clothing to feel:
- classic
- flattering
- not overly trendy
5) Shoes Usually Don’t Matter (But Confidence Does)
Most of the time, shoes aren’t the focus in portraits—especially in studio work.
What matters most is that you feel good, relaxed, and connected to your pet. That’s what creates the expression you’ll love forever.
6) When in Doubt, Ask
If you’re unsure what to wear, I’m happy to guide you during your consultation. A few small choices can make a big difference in how timeless your final portraits feel.
