It’s Getting Warmer! – Flea and Tick Prevention Tips for Dog

Summer is right around the corner, which means flea and tick season is as well. Warmth and humidity are the perfect environments for these pests to live in.

Your pups soft, warm fur is the perfect place for fleas and ticks to invade. This can be the cause of a variety of health related issues, which is why it’s important to take some preventative measures against fleas and ticks before you take your best friend outside this summer. Some of the health issues include:

  • Lyme disease
  • Rocky Mountain spotted fever
  • Tick paralysis
  • Anemia

Here are a few tips to follow so that you and your pup can enjoy the most out of the warm weather!

  1. Brush and groom your dog often – brushing and bathing your dogs help keep your pet clean and gives you the opportunity to spot any infestations before any sort of reaction.
  2. Purchase some flea and tick treatments made for dogs – if you’re not sure which prevention products to use, talk with your veterinarian about products they think can best help you prevent and kill fleas and ticks.
  3. Feed your dog nutritious and high-quality food – proteins and fatty acids help to keep your pups hair/skin nice and healthy!

Now, what do you do if your dog has fleas or ticks?

Following those preventative steps can definitely reduce the risk of exposure, but it’s not always guaranteed. Some warning signs of an infestation include:

  • Red skin, hot spots, or new scabs
  • Excessive licking, scratching, or head shaking
  • Loss of appetite or energy
  • Pale gums
  • Joint swelling or pain

If you spot any of these warning signs, you should consult your vet or groomer immediately to find the best course of action to remove the pests. A quick response can help save your best friend from discomfort and more harmful issues!

Stay safe and take care of your furry friends!

Your best friend at home deserves to be celebrated.
Not just in your camera roll — but in fine art that lives on your wall.
That’s why I hire a professional trainer for every session.
Because your best friend deserves to feel safe, calm, and supported while we create something beautiful.
And because women celebrate everyone else in their lives…
Why not the one who waits for you at home?
For the women who love fiercely — and the dogs who love them right back. 🖤
⠀
That kind of connection deserves to be remembered as art.
From the shoot to the moment it comes together.
